Itchy Scalp and Recommended Products
What are the symptoms of itchy scalp?
You know you have itchy scalp if you experience: a maddening
itchiness of the scalp that you are sorely tempted to scratch;
tell-tale flaking of the skin of your scalp; discomfort because of a
rash or reddening of the skin spreading across your neck and around
the ears; discomfort or tingling sensation caused by use of some
shampoos.

Causes of itchy scalp and
treatments
An
itchy scalp may be the
result of dandruff developing on your head. Dandruff is the
excessive shedding of the skin cells of your scalp, observable as
white flakes dusting your hair and shoulders (especially when you
wear dark clothing). You might have dandruff
because you are infected with a fungus dubbed melassezia globossa,
or because you have toxins in your system, or because you
have been using products (like shampoos) that you cannot tolerate.
The last cause (intolerable products) may pollute the skin of your
scalp with their byproducts. One common ingredient that makes the
scalp itch is silicone, an
artificial shine enhancer used in
commercially available
dandruff shampoos because it is quite cheap but which
you may find intolerable.
Treating Itchy Scalp or Dandruff is
Similar
Often, people who find their scalp
itching and flaking will use an anti-dandruff shampoo to treat their
scalp problem. But this only offers a short-term solution because
anti-dandruff shampoos only remedy the symptoms – not the causes of
itchy scalp. Research is now
showing that many ingredients of
shampoos and conditioners that we apply to our hair during bathing
may trigger the itching and flaking of our scalp because they are
not apt for our body chemistry. Thus, the natural sebum balance and
normal rate of flaking of scalp cells may be thrown out of whack,
and the result is itchy scalp. Some high ph
hair products can destroy
your hair follicles and can eventually cause cancer when used in
tandem with other common chemicals.
A good way to relieve itchy scalp,
then, is to immediately halt the use of a product when it causes our
scalp to react negatively. That kind of reaction shows that the
product is or has an allergen causing an allergic reaction in our
scalp. This may be the least expensive way to treat a case of itchy
scalp unless you have the malazeezia fungus control problem that the
majority of people do.
Products to relieve itchy scalp Zinc
pc (or ZPT) is one substance that is used in
anti-dandruff
shampoo formulations because of its anti-dandruff and
anti-fungal properties. Some dermatologists advice patients with
fungus on their faces to apply anti-dandruff shampoo with ZPT on
their facial skin – and it works!
Jojoba oil
can restore sebum balance and moisturizes the scalp quite well.
Tea tree and its derivative tea tree
oil are good substances to apply on cases of itchy scalp and
dandruff. It activates dormant scalp cells and hair follicles,
fostering their growth, and soothes the scalp. Basil promotes
growth. Chamomile helps fine to normal hair and leaves golden
highlights.
Clary sage relieves dandruff. Lavender
is excellent for relieving itchy scalp and dandruff (and even lice
is eliminated with this.)
Lemon also works against itchy scalp
and dandruff. Remember, avoid offensive products and go natural to
prevent cases of itchy scalp.
The product that we recommend that has
worked wonders for relieving itchy scalp for good is
Purify Shampoo
by Purity.
